Blue Jeans Baby

The first day of spring is almost upon us and it feels as though February has just flown by! I love the turn of each new season as it makes me excited to transition my wardrobe from one season to the next. I spent the last week on vacation in the beautiful Arizona desert surrounded by a sea of cactus and the most beautiful sunsets that you could ever imagine. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't still holding on to those desert vibes when I was thinking about my look for this post. My current obsession is an oversized felt hat, preferably one with some cowgirl characteristics. Now I know that in Orange County you don't see too many people sporting hats other than the baseball variety on their heads, but that doesn't mean I can't try something different. In Arizona hats (usually cowboy hats) are more of the norm, I have stopped myself several times from pointing out a man's cowboy hat while casually walking through the grocery store or Target (their look's are usually outfitted with a large metal belt buckle and matching boots, but that's a story for another day). However, I like to incorporate small parts of those desert chic vibes into my wardrobe choices when I'm home. Also who can blame a girl who looses herself in the pages of every Free People catalog and scrolling through the thick of Instagram while having hat envy?!

This wool felt hat from Free People instantly changes my mood when I put it on. I feel more confident and I swear I can hear country music playing with every step I take (kidding on the last part). I do feel you have to own your presence when you wear a hat like this, you receive more attention and I definitely feel more eyes on me when I'm out in public. Which is all the more reason to smile and hold my head and hat up high. The structure of the crown on this hat is beautiful, and I love the way the sand color compliments my hair. Although this hat is currently sold out, I've linked a similar one here.

Big Secret Now before I go any further with you and reveal the rest of the details from my look, I must be honest and let you in on a big dark secret. I rarely wear jeans....ever!! They are just so restricting, the cut is always an issue, and if you're petite like me you're always getting them hemmed! Even though I live near the denim capital of the world (LA) I'm not a big denim person, I never have been! I much rather wear a big over-the-top ruffled and flowy dress to twirl around in. I am uber feminine and would like to live out my bohemian woodland dreams in tunics and embroidered frocks than wear pants of any kind. I have only owned about 2 pairs of jeans up until last year when my grand total is now 4 pairs.

But my own personal denim quarrels aside, there's something about wearing a new hat and a pair of blue jeans that puts a smile on your face! When it comes to finding jeans I tend to stick to the same silhouette (as you already know I have difficulty just finding one pair so if it fits buy it in all of the washes). These jeans are from Topshop I tend to go towards the Jamie high rise slit knee jeans (Petite Girls Life Hack: All Jamie style jeans at Topshop are ankle length, I only but ankle length jeans so then I don't have to hem them).

My burnt orange colored blouse is a loved piece from my own wardrobe that is no longer available, however I'd also pair this hat and denim combo with one of these tops.

I am working on some fun Spring Fashion posts that I can't wait to share! Be sure to follow along for all of your fashion inspiration. xoxo~B  Photography by: Rachel from We are Conte, check out her talented portfolio and blog
